Shompole Marathon – Sunday 1st April– 2012
The Event!
The 4th Consecutive Shompole Marathon will take place on
the 31st march and 1st April 2012. We discovered a new half
marathon route this past weekend and are very excited about
it as it now also includes one lake. It really is a great
new loop that cuts across Lake Magadi, through the undulating
landscapes of the Southern rift and in view of the world
famous Lake Natron, the active volcanos of Oldonyo Nyokie
and Oldonyo Sabuk. Alongside the course: Wildbeests, Zebras,
Gazelles and other herbivores graze gracefully by the pastures.
The event was set up to offer a different experience for
those wishing to take the challenge of running a marathon
to the next level.
Put 1st January 2012
in your diary, in your phone, on the fridge, where ever,
but make sure you have it coz that’s when entries
open for the Shompole Marathon. Be sure to visit our website
for the new route map and follow us on the social sites
for all the latest info.
Shompole Marathon offers inspiring vistas over Shompole’s
major attractions. The relatively flat terrain opens up
the race to beginners and experienced trail runners alike.
Some hints and tips for Shompole trailists!
• Water is provided in cups – carry your own - hydration
pack or hip belt bottle holder.
• The route is marked, but doing on route training
is a good idea – maps will be available on the website.
• Trail running has obstacles such as rocks, roots,
branches and bushes – concentrate!
• Be prepared for the weather on the day, e.g. sun
hat and lotion, or wind breaker and warm kit.
• We are in a nature reserve so no litter of any sort
please.
• Running in mountains takes you to remote areas.
• Enjoy the journey and the views.
